The Okotoks BMX Club has received a huge boost from the Provincial Government.

Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson presented a cheque for $34,944 to the Club to help put the finishing touches on their new track.

Club President Trudy Andres says the funding is a step in the right direction for completing the track for next season.

"We're just so appreciative to have gotten that money, that will allow us to help complete our track and bring us that further to bringing it fully completed," he says.

The money is is from Province's Community Initiative Program grant and Andres says it'll go to good use.

"We would like to buy a new start gate for the track, however we just have to wait and see. We made a budget for when we applied for that so we'll have to go back to that budget and look to see what we can do with that money because it's very specific."

Andres says any not for profit organization would benefit greatly from the Community Initative Grants which are handed out yearly.

"When you're non-profit group and you rely heavily on volunteers and sponsorship, we needed to look at other avenues to help complete our construction of our world class BMX track and we needed to apply for grants."

Also receiving funds from the government were the Okotoks Curling Club for $23,291 and the Okotoks Karate Club was able to bring home $21,205.
