One of the two High River councillors not seeking re-election is Dragan Brankovich.

He says work commitments make it difficult to give the councillor's job the attention it deserves.

Brankovich is happy with how the town's bounced back from the 2013 flood.

"There's a degree of satisfaction with what was accomplished in this term," Brankovich says. "It's obvious a chapter on the High River recovery and development can be closed and the focus can totally be put on the future."

Although he won't be part of council he's confident about the town's prospects going forward.

"I'm very optimistic about the future of this town," he says. "I think this town is going to play a very important role in, not just as a town on its own, but as a part of the region south of Calgary."

He says there's a growing recognition amongst business communities in the region that they need to work together and High River's a big part of that.

Brankovich says he'll remain as a part of the Chamber of Commerce and Community Future Highwood.
