Progress is being made in moving Brant Christian School out of Brant and into a new home in the Foothills School Division.

The MD of Foothills has passed first reading to re-zone a parcel of land at Highway 543 and 48th St. East, by Sharall Estates that used to be a gravel pit.

Superintendent of Schools John Bailey says the next step is for the public hearings.

"It's in the MD hands because it is their property," said Bailey.

He esitimates the public hearings will be in May or June.

With a couple of big projects underway in the Foothills School Division the Province is not willing to fund a new building for this site, so the Brant Christian School Society will raise the funds needed for the new building.

Bailey says the school will be a great addition.

"We are happy to bring them on as an alternative program, as they function now."

Talks to move the school into the Foothills started a year ago and with most of the students coming from the division already, it just made sense to move the school there from the Palliser Regional School Division, where they are now.

"We would lease the school from them and operate the school. So the teachers would be employed by Foothills, and the students would be Foothills students but they would choose to be an alternative program," said Bailey.
