Thursday's Federal Budget didn't turn out quite as badly as High River's Chamber of Commerce President had predicted.

Steve Muth was worried it was going to be a very bad news budget, but in the end only Employment Insurance Premiums are going up, which is says still isn't the greatest news from a business standpoint, but not the worst either.

"When you looked at a lot of the other things that were on the docket three, four, five months ago. Probably not as bad as it could have been, but still not good news for the small business person in Alberta."

He says he was glad to see no hikes to the CPP, and that it was nice to see someone in government listened to groups like the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Provincial Chambers and the Canadian Federation of Canadian Business, by pulling back on a planned Canada Pension Plan increase.

He says things like the "Innovation Skills Plan," to foster high tech growth, money for "Labour Transfer Agreements" and incentives for youth employment are positives coming from the budget.
