Rodeo fans can expect to be blown away by this year's Guy Weadick Rodeo in High River.

The rodeo is being run by C5 Rodeo, who have returned the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association to the fold, after they pulled out a couple of years ago allowing the FCA or the Foothills Cowboy Association to take over.

C5 Rodeo Coordinator Gillian Shields says in the past the rodeo was simply that, a rodeo.

She says this year it's going to be that and a whole lot more.

"We are really, really,  focusing heavily on the entertainment value and the production value of the rodeo. So, we're really excited about that. Expect to see guys riding buffaloes, roman riders, whips, fire whips, clowns with trick roping anything you can name, but it'll be a very good sight to see and as well a very well run rodeo with great stock."

The rodeo events had suffered over the last couple of years with poor attendance, which lead to decreased numbers for the evening chuckwagons as well.

While she expects to increase the number of people coming out to both the rodeo and WPCA chucks this spring, Shields says she has realistic expectations heading into this year's rodeo.

"Well we know it's like anything. When you're first starting it out it's not necessarily an overnight thing. It's something that you're going to have to build momentum on. All we can do is put on the best show we can. Tell as many folks about it as we can and be happy with the crowd that we have."

C5 has also moved to online ticket sales this year for both the rodeo and the chucks, but Shields rush tickets will still be available at the gate.
