The 187 Foothills Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron is celebrating its 75th Anniversary with a Gala Saturday Oct 14.

The Chair of the Sponsoring Committee, Shvonne Shepard says it's part celebration and part fundraiser.

"We have Chris Koch coming from Nanton Alberta, to deliver his message If I Can, and there's also a fundraising aspect to it as well because we are in the process of a Citizenship Trip for our cadets next year," Shepard says. "Hopefully we can take them to a military base or two military bases to give them a tour, just to teach them a little bit about Canada and our history."

She says the programs is growing with 27 new recruits this year bringing the squadron up to 86 members from High River, Okotoks, Black Diamond, Nanton and Cayley.

"They do great things for the communities, you'll see them out and about on Remembrance Day which is coming up, we are usually in four different communities that day and so the cadets also give back to the community, on Remembrance Day and also on an individual basis. We have many cadets that volunteer with their schools or the Legions in our communities, so the program in great in teaching them to give back to our communities."

The Gala will be held Saturday at the Highwood Memorial Centre with doors opening at 5 p.m.
