The Town of High River is looking for volunteers who can bring joy to children in the Hampton's area.

Caitland Asmundson with Family and Community Support Services says they need at least ten volunteers for Oct. 9 and 10 to help put in a playground...

"What we've chosen to do is to break that into four-hour shifts, we welcome people who are able to take more than one shift if they choose and it can be anyone, we're asking for adults or older teenagers who are able to do some of the heavy lifting and installation," she says.

In June a neighbourhood block party was held at the site of the future playground where area residents were able to provide input for elements they would like to see in a new playground in the Hamptons community.  Asmundson says that information was compiled into a Request for Proposal, which received three submissions, based on the priorities of the residents.

At the end of August, Hamptons community members gathered again to vote on which of the three proposals that they liked best and a submission from Park n’ Play Design Co. Ltd. was chosen.

Park and Play Design has donated $12,000 in equipment and Shawne Excavating is donating some the earth work.

Asmundson says the children's involvement doesn't end there.

"We are asking the children in the Hamptons to come with ideas to names the park," she says. "As well we're doing a project with them where they write down their wishes for the future and we're going to bury that under the playground in a little treasure box, so it is a way for the community to feel connected to something that is going to be there for a long time."
