A client with the Foothills Advocacy In Motion Society is having a banner year.

Katherine Rocher has been making banners for the Terry Fox run in High River for 17 years and now she's unveiled her Canada Day banner

Fundraising and Communications Coordinator for FAIM, Arlene Ridgeway, says Canada Day is a big day for them.

"The High River Half Marathon is going to be on July 1st and of course it's also Canada's 150th Anniversary, so it's going to be an excellent birthday party and afterwards actually the Town of High River is also doing celebrations" Ridgeway says. "It's a great family event and there's still time to come join in and there's lots of opportunities to sign up."

She'll be at the Running Room location in Shaughnessy in Calgary Thursday, June 29, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Runners can also register at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex Friday, June 30, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Or Saturday, July 1, in George Lane Park from 6 to 7:45 a.m.

The Half-Marathon starts at 7 Saturday morning with the 10-K run and 5-K run and walk both starting at 8 a.m.

"We're adding a new element this year, there's going to be top placing's in the 21-K, the 10-K and 5-K, so we'll have plaques and trophies for the first place man and women in each heat," Ridgeway says. "And we're also going to have awards for the most patriotically dressed volunteer, the most patriotically dressed runner and also for the most fun dressed kid under 12."

She says it means a lot to the adults with developmental disabilities that they support.

The event is a big fundraiser for the group's activities throughout the year.
