A crash that took out the power in the southeast part of High River Monday night is still under investigation.

An off-duty High River RCMP member was traveling to work just before 6 p.m., when he came across the collision involving a 2003 Ford Fusion and 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt just north of the traffic circle at 12th Avenue at Centre Street.

As a result of the collision, the Cobalt left the roadway, striking a utilities box on the side of the traffic circle.

The damage to the utilities box required Fortis to attend to make the area safe for the two drivers and first responders.

The High River Fire Department,  along with Fortis, worked to clean up the damage and restore power to area residents.

A 60-year-old man who was driving the Cobalt, was taken to hospital by EMS and later released.

A 33 year-old man, the lone occupant of the Fusion, was not injured.
