The Okotoks Air Ranch CFX2 held their official grand opening yesterday June 17, with a big fly in pancake breakfast and representatives from the town to help celebrate the opening of the airport.

CFX2 has been open for just over a month now, after voluntarily suspending operations in April 18, 2016

Trent Obrigewitsch, airport manager, says the re-opening of CFX2 has been a learning experience.

"This is kind of a unique experience to re-open an airfield again, so it doesn't happen all that often. It may not be that successful at times but we understand that people were very surprised, but very happy to have it back. So what we know is that there are folks who will be coming back to CFX2 who are closing out arrangements at the field that they've been located."

He adds as a whole there is a definite demand for folks that were there before, and they expect to recapture everybody that had to leave suddenly.

Obrigewitsch shares the airport is now looking for new companies to set up shop in the Okotoks area, CFX2 is a certified airport with defined standards, which creates a lot of opportunity for aviation support business.

"What we're going to be doing is running the airfield for groups that want to start, and house aviation businesses. We have ahead a lot of interest for groups who want to come out here, and establish training, and charter companies."

He adds Okotoks residents can expect more air traffic over the coming months as the Air Ranch gets back up and running.
