A lot of people have spent their quarantine time baking, and now the province is making it easier to sell the results.

Home-based businesses no longer need food-handling permits and are no longer subject to inspections for foods that present a low risk for food-borne illness.

Those include foods that don't need to be refrigerated and include things like baked goods, jams and jellies, candies, pickled foods and cereals.

High-risk foods and foods containing meat, poultry, seafood and/or raw milk will continue to be prohibited.

Home-prepared foods, including those sold at farmers markets, will need to be clearly and appropriately labelled so buyers can make informed choices.

These requirements will take place gradually, starting with education.
