Police have ruffled the feathers of protesters laying charges following their investigation into the animal activists who allegedly invaded a Hutterite Colony turkey farm near Fort Macleod.

On Monday, September 2 of the Labour Day long weekend, Mounties say they were dispatched to the farm at about 7:15 a.m. in response to a large group of people protesting both on the farm and the adjacent highway.

When they got there, RCMP say they found several people who had entered the barn area unlawfully.

46 year old,Maxwell Ming Mah, from Edmonton, 28 year old Claire Buchanan of Calgary, 24 year old Pincher Creek resident Kennadi Rae Herbert, and a 16 year old female from Calgary have all been charged with one count of break and enter to commit mischief.

Police say all four have been released from custody.

The youth is scheduled to appear in Fort Macleod Provincial Court on Friday, November 15, while the three adults are scheduled to appear in the same court on Wednesday, November 27.

Earlier this month, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney made it clear they have a zero tolerance policy for what he calls, "anti-farming militants".

The UCP will introduce new legislation in the Fall sitting to better protect farmers from trespassing and bullying.

The proposed legislation includes fines up to $10,000 for first offense, up to $25,000 for repeat offenses for individuals and up to $200,000 for organizations with possible jail time of up to six months.
