The Town of High River is getting together with RCMP, Fire Department and Canadian Tire to raise money so kids can take part in activities of all sorts.

Community programmer with the Town Iva Woodward says they'll be holding their second annual Jumpstart check stop later this month.

She says some sports and other activities are becoming too expensive for some families.

"We to keep ours down to the most minimal charge that we can get away with, just so those kids can participate and it doesn't have to be in a competitive environment, it's just something to keep them social and keep up their self esteem," Woodward says. "Some families, when it's unaffordable to them, some kids tend not to be able to participate so this removes all those barriers for them."

RCMP, the Fire Department and town staff will man the check stop on Centre Street between 3 and 4 Avenues collecting donations and there'll be a bar-b-que at Canadian Tire with the raffle of a trampoline to raise more money for Jumpstart as well..

Last year they raised $4,000 with the check stop..
