It's impaired driving month in Alberta and High River RCMP will be busy Saturday, December 2, as they launch a drunk driving CheckStop blitz.

High River RCMP Corporal Jason Cann, says they'll be looking for drunk drivers, but there are other kinds of impairments that should keep people from getting behind the wheel.

"We also look for people impaired by a lack of sleep or prescription medication or illegal drugs, all which constitute impaired driving."

Cann says despite years of warnings and awareness campaigns they're still finding drunk drivers out there.

"I think it's still consistent. It can be hit or miss, we go out on a Friday night and have nothing, but we go out on a Tuesday night and have two impaired drivers. We certainly see an increase during the holiday season, just with all the office parties and what not. So, we try to get out as much as possible throughout December and January."

He says they'll also be looking for distracted drivers and those not wearing their seatbelts.

He says drunk driving numbers have remained steady in the area over the holiday season for the past few years.
