The annual High River Christmas Bird Count is coming back to High River this month.

Biologist Greg Wagner says the warm weather we've seen could make it a busy year for those taking part in the count.

"It's looks like it could be quite a productive year. We still have a lot of ducks around. We have a lot of owls, snowy owls and great horned owls are out in abundance. A lot of the winter finches are back. So, we could have a really good year. When all of those factors come together we usually have a fair number of birds seen. So, I'm looking forward to it."

The count is December 15, with Wagner saying counters should meet at the clubhouse at Polo Park between 7 and 8 A.M.

They'll be assigned their routes and head out from there.

Backyard feeder counters can also take part that day.

The community center is located at 203 Freeman Way in the north part of town on the way to the Highwood Golf Course.

It can be accessed off of Highway 2A.
