Members from across the Foothills community have teamed up to assemble the Christmas display throughout George Lane Park in High River.

The crew from the Rotary, Kinsman and Lions clubs headed out to the park last week to start their work.

Member of the Kinsman Club and Chairperson for the Santa Claus Parade Ted Dawson says they were lucky to get some additional displays from a local family.

"We had some donations this year from Dennis and Joanna Levy, which really increased the size of our display. With all the extra stuff to put up, we thought we would start a little earlier this year."

The crew got to work replacing over 4500 hundred bulbs, and upgrading the existing lights to more energy efficent LED bulbs.

Dawson says, the Foothills Composite high school's Fabrication Club in Okotoks, have been working to create their own addition to the park.

"This year from the Composite we have this absolutely incredible 14 foot angel, and she's gonna be front and centre when you drive into the park, you'll definitely see her."

As for when the lights make their debut, Dawson says it'll happen after Remembrance Day, and before the big parade.

"We'll start turning the lights on after Remembrance Day, they'll officially kick off somewhere between 5 and 5:30p.m. on December 7, just prior to the Santa Claus Parade."

The display project is ongoing, with work starting again on Wednesday November 7 and on November 8, Fortis Alberta will be setting up the lights on the tall trees at the entrance of the park.

With the communities efforts in putting together the display for the park, Dawson says he hopes it'll help bring some Christmas cheer.

"It's kind of a magical evening for folks to come down to the park, park their car at one of the lots and have a good look at everything."
