The High River Chamber of Commerce' Shop and Win contest at Christmas was another rousing success.

Lynette McCracken with the Chamber says the sales were actually up over the previous year's totals. There was a total of $101,807.79 spent at the participating businesses based on the entries received during the contest period.

"We're about a 34 per cent increase in sales which is pretty amazing, due to the overwhelming support of the community so we'd like to see those numbers get even higher next year," she says.

McCracken says the goal was to entice shoppers to spend in their own community and it seems to be working. Shoppers came from across the greater Calgary area, High River and the foothills and included people from Edmonton, Saskatoon and Vancouver.

The winner of the Shop and Win contest was Catherine Shaw of High River who received gift certificates from the participating businesses.

McCracken says they'll do it all again in 2016.
