It took over a year but High River Citizens On Patrol or C.O.P. is back on the beat.

Program Co-coordinator Constable Stacy Campbell with the High River RCMP says the police can't be everywhere so they appreciate the help.

"Last year I was tasked with getting together some community members and trying to resurrect the Citizens On Patrol program. Citizens in the community go out on their own time and patrol around the community, they're an extra set of eyes and ears for us as the Police."

She says they have thirty five volunteers but has a goal of one hundred for High River.

She says the volunteer program provides a great service to residents and business owners in town.

"They do business checks, they'll go around town and check businesses that they're secure. It's a volunteer program, we have a board and we're under the umbrella of the Alberta Citizens On Patrol Association."

Campbell says she was commissioned to bring the program back to life and she is always looking for a few good men and women.

"Applications are at the detachment, they need two pieces of ID. Just come in and fill out the application and the criminal record check form and it'll get passed to me and I'll make sure our President gets it and they'll go from there."

Campbell says C.O.P. volunteers they leave their card when they check on a business to say that they've been there.

She says members of the C.O.P. program do not engage people when they patrol but they can call the police.
