Less than a year after being voted into office, Claresholm Town Councillor, Donna Courage is stepping down.

In a statement, Claresholm Mayor Doug MacPherson says he and the rest of Council were disappointed to see Courage step down but wished her well.

The official announcement came during their regular Council meeting Monday, August 13, but her resignation letter had also been distributed to mail boxes in Claresholm earlier in the day.

Courage had filed a human rights complaint against the Town back in February, after claiming to be the victim of a home invasion, which resulted in her being hospitalized, however no details of the assault were ever released.

She had planned on stepping aside at the time, but was encouraged to stay because of community support.

The Town will hold a By-election Monday, October 15 to fill her vacant seat.

The only day nomination papers can be filed is Monday, September 17.
