As the economy improves in Alberta things are starting to look good in the Town of Claresholm.

Justin Sweeney, economic development officer, says they have seen a resurgence of small independently owned business's in the last 12 to 18 months.

"We've actually seen a lot of our vacant buildings in the downtown taken up by upstart businesses," said Sweeney. "With everything from cafes to niche shopping to used good stores, so we do have some good things happening that way."

And real estate agents in the area are reporting that residential homes are moving quickly.

"I would certainly say that is a positive indication for the local economy."

There is one area though Sweeney would like to see improve.

"We haven't really seen a lot of commercial real estate being moved, or new large commercial operations come in. However we haven't seen any major closures that way either. We did have one closure but for the most part they are weathering the storm very well."
