A lot of confusion and speculation in Claresholm following the sudden resignation Monday, August 13, of Town Councillor Donna Courage.

Elected in last October's civic election, she suffered an alleged home invasion in February, which left her hospitalized, and shortly after she launched a human rights complaint against the Town.

Claresholm Mayor Doug MacPherson says neither matter has been resolved.

"The RCMP report it's an ongoing investigation, they've never found who did it. I don't know where they're at, the RCMP don't talk much about their ongoing cases, but it's unresolved. And the human rights part, once you register it, it just goes through the system up in Edmonton. So, we haven't heard back yet."

MacPherson wouldn't speculate on whether or not either thing led to her decision to quit.

The Mayor says he didn't see it coming.

"It was a surprise to me I thought. I didn't think she would leave, I thought she had her issues a bit resolved, but unfortunately she felt she was being ineffective and she called it quits."

A by-election will be held Monday, October 15.
