Alberta's Annual Highway Clean Up will be taking place this weekend, on Saturday, September 19th.

This event typically takes place in the month of May, however, it was postponed this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Volunteers will be collecting trash along Alberta highways between the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. sporting bright orange safety vests.

Community organizations, which include 4-H clubs, Scouts, Girl Guides, schools, church and non-profit groups will earn $100 per every kilometre cleaned.

Motorists are advised to be on the lookout, slow down, obey signs and use caution when passing clean up crews.

Last year, 740 volunteer organizations involved in the event received approximately 1.28 million in funds from the Alberta Government.

About 13,700 kilometres of Alberta's roads were cleaned up by 18,000 volunteers who collected more than 56,000 bags of garbage.
