High River's Community Vitality Advisory Committee has a full slate.

Town council named nine members to the board at its meeting Monday.

The committee advises council on grants aimed at supporting the community, community based projects and community led initiatives, whether it's a specific improvement project or setting up events.

“The idea behind forming this committee is that citizens build communities,” says Caitland Asmundson, community development worker for the Town said in a news release. “We are empowering our residents to partner with the Town and lead their own projects, events, and initiatives within the community.”

Mayor Craig Snodgrass said, in establishing the board, it could be quite intimidating for individuals to appear at a public council meeting to plead their case for only a couple hundred dollars.

Now they'll appear before the committee and they'll make recommendations to council.

There are two streams of funding available to applicants. The Innovation Fund is for projects of $2,000 or less, while the Enhancement Fund is for projects with a budget over $2,000. Applications are reviewed in January, May and September.

Gillian Cropper, Elena Kerns, and Ken Martell were named to the board for one-year terms, while Angela Caldwell, Tom Sales and Nicole Schmidt will sit on the board for two year terms, and named to three year terms are; Karen Orser, Tammy Beach and Rob Whitfield.
