The Leaders have taken the first step in merging the Alberta PC and Wildrose parties, but the real work is going to be done at the constituency level.

Highwood PC Association President R.J. Sigurdson says there's a sense of relief among local PC members that after a long leadership campaign there's finally a sense of direction.

"I think everybody agrees is the most important part right now is executing a plan that will remove the NDP from power."

There's still some bitter feeling between the two right wing parties, but Sigurdson says now's the time to put aside any old animosity and work together.

"I know it does exist. It's something that you can't deny that there's some ill-feelings between Wildrose and PC members. But I think the common goal of defeating the NDP, may be the one thing where conservatives all together, can mend those bad feelings, and work together."

Sigurdson says he expects to hear more details on how to move forward in the days ahead once he hears from newly elected Party Leader Jason Kenney.
