A Bill that could see the end of Country of Origin Labelling, or COOL, is making it's way through the U.S. Congress.

If it's passed and COOL is repealed it would head off a billion dollars worth of retaliatory tariff's aimed at U.S. products.

Colin Woodall  is the V.P. of Government Affairs with the National Cattlemen's Beef Association in Washington D.C.

He says the threat of a billion dollars worth of punitive tariff's opened the eyes of lawmakers south of the border.

"It has and I would say that the Canadian government and also the producer associations in Canada have been very good at letting our congress know very clearly, that retaliation is not a threat. That if it needed to be implemented that they would very well do that. And I think that has helped us to put the pressure on our House (Congress) and our Senate to get this done."

The Bill could pass as early as Friday, while Canada and Mexico could have World Trade Organization approval for the tariff's before next week.
