Town Council gave one thousand dollars to the High River Peewee "A" Hockey Committee to help them host the provincial championships this March.

Hockey mom Shauna Hall was very happy with council's response.

"I think they seemed really excited about what we're doing. We got exactly what we asked for, which was perfect."

She says the money will be used to show off High River.

"We just felt like the community event piece was really important because we want people to stay in High River and we wanted the tournament to be amazing and to just showcase our town to these visiting families and let them know that we're back."

Hall says they're hoping for lots of people to come and enjoy the weekend.

"We want just a lot of people in the stands and we just want to show that we're just a really supportive community even if it's not our home team playing. We'd still love to see lots of people come out and cheer and to experience some of the events that we have going on. We're working with a lot of different groups to try to bring these great things and we just want to see lots of families out and about that weekend."

The Foothills Flyers are working with groups including the Town of High River Recreation Staff, the Rotary Club, the Wales Theatre, Parent Link Centre, High River Library, Museum of the Highwood, the Junior "B" Flyers and Sobeys to make the provincials an exciting weekend.
