High River council thanked the Highwood Lions club for all of its efforts in making the campground in George Lane Park the best in southwest Alberta.

Pat George says campers were given a form and their feedback went to the tourism association which handed out the award.

"It's not by us, it's by the people, the campers themselves that do the voting and a lot of them are quite strict," he says. "If the washrooms are not clean and tidy they will tell you and we appreciate that, because if there's something we're missing we want to know about it, if there's something we can do better, we want to know about it.

He says they picked up the award Oct. 4 in Lethbridge where there were seven campgrounds in the running.

George says the Town of High River, through Parks Supervisor Tannas Webb and the Lions have worked well together.

"If Tannas or the Town has a problem they come to me and I'll take care of the problem down at the park, if the park has a problem, they come to me and I'll go to Tannas," George says.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says the campground is one he and his family use a lot and he thanked the Lions for the great job they've done.
