Okotoks RCMP are investigating after complaints of counterfeit money being passed to local businesses last week.

A number of reports came from businesses who'd received fake Canadian bills ranging from $20 to $100.

Sgt. Sukh Randhawa says the suspects would try to divert the cashiers attention.

"They were going to the tills with the counterfeit bills and would distract the cashier and pass on the bill to make a small purchase, for a couple bucks or so, and then try to pass on the counterfeit bill so they could get the legal currency back."

Randhawa says if anyone suspects money to be counterfeit the RCMP should be contacted right away.

Information in regards to these reports can be passed on to Okotoks RCMP (403-938-4202) or Crimes Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
