Another day, another round of cyber attacks on company's and individuals.

So far Canada hasn't been hit, but Russia, the Ukraine, Poland, Italy, the UK, Germany, France and the U.S. are all feeling the effects of the latest ransomware attack.

However Vulcan's David Swan with the Cyber Intelligence Defence Centre says it's going to be hard for those affected to pay the hackers.

"Apparently the ransomware e-mail address was provided through a German e-mail provider, who when they figured out their company name, their brand was being associated with a guy mounting a global attack, they turned it off."

He says simply shutting down your website and starting anew isn't your best option.

"I have got clients who've been hacked. And the one's who've got back-ups, their net cost was an hour or two of downtime to hit "restore" from their back-ups."

Swan says Microsoft operating systems are the most vulnerable, but there are patches available as long as you run updates on your computers on a regular basis.

Swan says Apple IOS's aren't immune either.

The really bad news is he says there's more on the way.
