Rowan House Child Care Room

November is Family Violence Prevention Month.

Ally Cramm with the Rowan House Women's Emergency Shelter says they'll kick it off Tues. Nov. 2, at 9 a.m and they hope a lot of others will join in.

"We decided we're going to launch Family Violence Prevention Month with a little dance video," Cramm says. "Our Executive Director Sherrie (Botten) is currently in the Hague Netherlands for the third World Conference of Women's Shelters, and they have representatives from 105 different countries, and they're going to try to break the record for the most countries dancing in one place at one time."

She says area residents can keep an eye out later this month for other activities around the community focused on preventing family violence in the community.

And all this month the Sobey's in High River and Okotoks will have a point of purchase opportunity for customers to donate $2 to the cause.

Cramm says besides raising money perhaps someone waiting in line at the check-out may see information on the shelter and learn where they too can call for help if they need it.
