Extreme long distance runner Dave Proctor, has a lot to celebrate this week.

He raised an additional $50,000 for the Rare Disease Foundation on Thursday July 26, which brings him closer to his 1 million dollar contribution goal.

The donation comes from TD Bank as part of their #TDThanksYou campaign, which aimed to shine the spotlight on local heroes.

Senior Vice President for the Prairie Region TD Bank Robert Ghazal says, Proctors efforts encapsulate the works of a hero.

"We had thousands of applicants for our recent campaign, and Dave's marathon across Canada stuck out immediately. We are rooting him along as he makes his way across Canada, in a not-so-easy task."

Proctor started his marathon June 27 and aims to run across Canada is 66 days.

Proctors son Sam, was diagnosed with the rare disease Relapsing Encephalopathy with Cerebellar Ataxia (RECA.), which only 5 other people in the world currently have.

The Outrun Rare 2018 run started by Proctor, is his effort in boosting public awareness and funding for individuals with rare diseases.

Currently Proctor has just made his way through the Deacons Corner Petro Pass in Winnipeg, and is en route to set foot in the Atlantic Ocean off the harbour of St.John's, Newfoundland.
