The Dewdney Players production of Calendar Girls brought people to their feet but also brought a generous donation to the Foothills Country Hospice.

With sell-out crowds every night at the Rotary Performing Arts Centre, those involved with Calendar Girls also sold their infamous calendars with all proceeds going towards the Hospice.

The Calendar Girls raised $5,500 during their fundraiser and with that amount the hospice will be able to buy at new couch and love seat for the facility.

Executive Director Dawn Elliott says the hospice is extremely floored by what the Dewdney Players have done for their facility.

"I'm just very, very grateful all of us at the hospice are very grateful for the Dewdney Players for their generous donation we're very thankful," she says.

The donation and items that will be purchased by the Hospice is fitting because in the production of Calendar Girls, the goal in the play was to raise money by selling tasteful calendars in order to raise money for a couch in the actual play.

Elliott says its quite the coincidence for them.

"I wasn't aware of the story behind it until Sue (Gothard) this morning (Wednesday), so I think its rather fitting that we'll be the proceeds of this money to go towards the purchase of a new couch and love seat for our family room and also our children's room."

Elliott added that the Hospice's donation from the players just shows how caring the community is for the facility.

"I feel like we're paying homage to the Calendar Girls and with the story that we heard with that play where they were indeed were looking to raise money in the play to provide a suttee, it just seems really appropriate and just really nice that we're able to use the money for that."
