The Okotoks Art Gallery will have a special Christmas tree set-up this year with items under and on the tree going to local charities.

The Tree of Warmth will be on display from now until December 21.

Culture and Heritage Manager for the Town of Okotoks, Allan Boss says it's a display the art gallery takes a lot of pride in.

"Tree of Warmth is in the centre of the art gallery, we put a beautiful tree up, its during our Spirit of Christmas exhibit in which our whole gallery becomes a Christmas shop full of crafts and art by Okotoks Art Gallery members," he says.

Boss says the Tree of Warmth is designed to encourage others to donate items that will warm up those who need it during the long cold winter months.

"People can bring new slippers or scarves, gloves or toques or children's items for winter," he says. "They have to be new, then we put them on the tree and the tree gets all covered in these amazing pieces of cloth and then we take them and we donate them to charities."

Boss says the art gallery makes sure to keep the donations close to home.

"There are some groups in Okotoks that we give to, we're also giving to the Southern Alberta Brain Injury Society that we've partnered with them too, they're based out of Calgary but there are members that might live here too."

To donate all you have to do is drop off your winter items to the Tree of Warmth at the Art Gallery during it's open hours.
