One Okotokian finished her 22 push-up challenge in style Tuesday afternoon.

Andrea Sequiera wanted to do something special for her 22 Push Ups in 22 Days challenge as she had some help finishing up her social media challenge as she had members of the Okotoks Fire Department join for 22 of their own push ups as well.

The challenge is designed to raise awareness towards post traumatic stress disorder which is common for first responders and military service members, Sequiera says she's learned quite a bit about PTSD since she started doing 22 push ups a day.

"I've done the challenge and it was final day so that's why I wanted to make more meaningful for the people out there who are watching it on social media," she says. "I really wanted to get a good message out there and spread awareness to PTSD."

Sequiera says it was a bit of challenge at first to complete the push ups but says through her summer she had some help from those she challenged to do the event as well.

"I was on holidays in Vancouver and Victoria, when I was on the ferry on the way to Victoria I did it with a basketball team in the United States which is absolutely wonderful and I've done it Vancouver. Victoria, Whistler and other places along the way."

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot who dropped and gave Andrea 22 says the challenge is another great way to see members of the community see how mentally tough one has to be as a first responder as there's no avoiding PTSD in his line of work.

"It does affect everybody at different times in their career I believe," he says. "I'm glad to see the provincial government step up in 2012 and pass the legislation of Bill 1. It helps the first responders from Police, Fire, EMS, the sheriffs, the peace officers, of course our veterans and our active military personnel."

Bill 1 is change in the workers compensation act that helps first responders get help and treatment for those suffering from PTSD.

From 2004 to 2014, 160 Canadian soldiers committed suicide due to suffering from PTSD.
