It's not every day that you go to school and have a hawk fly mere inches over your head.

But it was part of the day on Thursday, April 27 as the Earth Rangers landed at Spitzee School and Sunny the Hawk took flight overtop of 400 very still, very quiet, seated elementary school students.

Principal Brooke MacNeill says the students learned some important lessons about protecting animals and their habitat.

"I know our teachers will be taking our students and having some conversations around what is it we can do,"said MacNeill.

Spitzee school is also a UNESCO school and one of their goals is to protect the environment.

Michael Veltri, one of the rangers, said teaching the kids about conservation is very rewarding.

"It is really their reaction and seeing that click into place when I'm talking about things they can do to help, and they are like, oh I could do that."

For Jacob Stadwiser, Payge Orchard-Flundra, Peyton Leisen and Ryder Brown it was all about Sunny the Hawk and feeling the air in their hair as he flew over.

The assembly was sponsored by Altalink.
