Another feather in High River's cap for economic development in High River.

The Town went up against eight other communities and came out in first place in the Business Investment Attraction Strategy category which was awarded at the Economic Development of Alberta's annual conference on Thursday, March 22.

High River's Manager of Economic Development, Jodi Dawson says it is all due to the success of the "Rooted In People" campaign that they put together in 2017.

"The number one goal of our team since I have been in place has been to increase the confidence of investors," said Dawson. "And the people who are looking at locating in High River by telling them what High River is really about."

Dawson says they showed the spirit of the town in five videos they produced for a campaign that highlighted entrepreneurs, agriculture, adventure, family and creatively and the arts.

She adds a lot of information was gathered before the project started.

"What makes our community special and it really comes down to the people of our community, the grit, the determination, the ingenuity, the collaboration and the spirit of our community is what we wanted to bring through in the Rooted in People Campaign."

Dawson says the award showcases that the campaign was high quality.

"The big thing is it is authentic, people know it is real. It aligns with who High River really is and it's getting attention. I am hearing from investors and I am hearing from people from all corners of North America."

That includes a business magazine from Florida that's looking to do a story on High River's entrepreneurs because of one of the videos from the campaign.
