John Bailey, Superintendent of the Foothills School Division, says the consolidation of Ed Plus will allow better support for students.

The Foothills School Division will be consolidating it's Ed Plus programs in High River and Black Diamond.

The program will now be offered out of Cameron Crossing in Okotoks and FSD will provide transportation to those High River and Black Diamond students who can't make the commute.

John Bailey, Superintendent with the Foothills School Division, says there's very few students enrolled in Ed Plus.

"We had 15 students in all of Foothills registered in Ed Plus, so a very very small number." he says, "By the time we surveyed parents and families we had 19 students. We contacted all those families by mail and by email and we got not responses at all."

Bailey says this consolidation will be beneficial for students.

"We think it'll offer better support for our students, more effective support, and really it's part of our continuum of supports. We want to make sure places are well staffed and appropriately staffed and students get the help they need, and really the HUB program has been so successful it's really kind of eliminated the Ed Plus program."

The newer HUB program offers a blended learning environment with independent online work and teacher instruction.

The success rate with Ed Plus is fewer than 30 percent, while the HUB program sees a success rate of 86 percent.
