It's that time of year again where Albertans are cranking the air conditioner in their homes to beat the heat.

With electricity in high demand, the Utilities Consumer Advocate is notifying Albertans that they'll see a significant hike in their electricity bills.

Customers who purchase electricity through the Regulated Rate Option (RRO) tend to see an seasonal increase every summer.

RRO has increased from an average of almost four cents per kilowatt hour in June, to an average of more than seven cents per kilowatt hour in July.

This will result in an average increase of about $21 on a typical electricity bill.

This hike will continue through the summer months, but should go back to normal by September at the latest.
