The numbers are in and once again enrollment is up in the Foothills School Division.

As of September 30th, FSD recorded a growth of about 1.6 percent, with Okotoks seeing the largest increase.

Despite okotoks seeing the most noticeable boost, Allen Davidson, assistant superintendent of employee services with the division, says the only school to see a decrease was Westmount School.

"It was a planned decrease with our decision to cap enrollments and direct students into other schools including Big Rock and Okotoks Junior High School, and the movement of our kindergarten classes out of Westmount into Big Rock, so that accomplished our goal of alleviating the accute population challenges we were having in that school."

Davidson says the school is still quite full at nearly 700 students but that staff have commented they've noticed the change in the building.

According to Davidson this growth has become a bit of a norm.

"We have had between probably 2 and five percent increases in our schools over the last number of years so increases are a constant trend we see in this area."

He says having the challenge of increasing enrollment presents positive challenges for the division, as opposed to decreasing enrollment which would mean programs and staff being cut and a limiting of options for students.
