The saga of the Southwest berm in High River continues to roll along.

The Town has sent a "Notice to Expropriate" to the landowner which gets the process started, which Mayor Craig Snodgrass says means they could start construction by this time next year.

"That's the motivating piece to get through this, is that yes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel to get this done and that's the important thing at the end of the day is to get High River protected."

Snodgrass says the landowner's getting a fair price for the land the berm will sit on along 12th Avenue.

"3.6 is the full number. $600,000 of that is for the land under the berm. Three million of that is for injurious compensation."

However, the landowner has filed a notice of objection, which didn't faze Snodgrass.

"No surprise whatsoever. You weren't paying attention if you didn't see that one coming."

In all the Province has provided the Town just shy of 21-million dollars to build the berm, which could get started by as early as January, 2019.
