The Rowan House Women's Emergency Shelter will be out and about in November promoting awareness as part of Family Violence Prevention Month.

Fund Development Coordinator, Ally Cramm, says there's a culture of violence that needs to have a light shed on it.

"We use the month to kind of, raise the volume on the conversation around family violence because it's something that thrives in secrecy and we really want to change that."

Part of the initiative is to have people wear purple shoe laces to show their support.

You can pick up your free pair at the AM 1140 and Sun Country studios in High River.
