The hail we've seen recently may not be welcome, but the moisture it and the rain that comes along with it bring, certainly are for area farmers.

Jeff Porter, the Agricultural Field Man for the M.D. of Foothills says we're getting rain when we need it most.

"For sure, we're hitting that time when the heads on crops are starting to emerge and fill and definitely the timing of the moisture is right on."

He says we're definitely in a drought situation, which wasn't helped by our dry winter and spring.

But he adds, the timing is right for this now, with the crop canopies filled in, which will help them trap some of that moisture.

He says however, the ground is so dry it's pulling in all the moisture almost as fast as it falls from the sky.
