One woman is dead and three others have been sent to hospital following a crash on Highway 2A near Aldersyde this morning.

Two vehicles, a black Ford Edge and a silver Honda Civic, collided on the road at around 10:50 Friday morning.

According to Okotoks RCMP, the Civic swerved and crossed into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into the Edge.

The 52-year-old woman, a passenger in the Civic, died at the scene, while the driver, a 45-year-old man, and another passenger, a 49-year-old man, were sent to hospital in potentially life-threatening condition.

The driver of the Ford Edge, a 40-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

RCMP will not be releasing the name of the deceased.

STARS Air Ambulance was called to the scene, but did not transport any of the patients.

RCMP are continuing the investigation and Highway 2A between Highway 7 and 418 Ave north of Aldersyde remains closed until further notice.
