The Town of High River is offering a program aimed at lower income residents which will allow them to use Town Recreational Facilities or access programs at half price.

They're called "CAP" cards, or Community Access Program cards.

High River's Family and Community Support Services Coordinator, Kate Tymstra, says the program's been expanded from the old Fee Assistance Program, which provided discounts to just the pool and Rec-Plex, to allow more people to take advantage of it.

"The 'CAP' Program has a higher income limit, and it applies to any programs that the Town offers in their Program Guide. Swimming lessons, and all facility admissions and passes."

CAP card holders are eligible to receive:

•                 50% off all programs offered in the Town of High River community program guide (excluding day camps)
•                 50% off admissions and passes to the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex and Cargill Field House
•                 FCSS’ Volunteer Income Tax Program

To qualify for a 2016/2017 CAP card you must be a resident of High River and have an annual income below a certain level depending on the number of people in your household.

Complete details on the program can be found online at www.highriver.ca under the Residents then Family and Community Support Services menu.

You can click "HERE" for a link to the applications page.

Applications can be made at Family and Community Support Services located at #101 – 303 9 Avenue S.W. (Charles Clark Medical Centre).

They can be reached by phone at 403-652-8620 or by emailing fcss@highriver.ca.

Tymstra says they're also going to shop the program to local businesses in hopes they'll get on board by offering discounts to people who have a "CAP" Card.
