The cost of the Trans Mountain pipeline is going up.

The Federal Government put $4.5 billion into buying it back in May and are now shelling out another $1.9 billion.

Foothills MP John Barlow says there is no guarantee the pipeline will ever be built.

"Absolutely not! Purchasing that pipeline hasn't changed anybody's mind. You saw initially with (Alberta) Premier (Rachel) Notley saying "Hey, get your shovels, we're going back to work." It's hooey, it's bogus, it doesn't do anything."

In all Kinder Morgan says it'll cost $7.4 billion to build the second pipeline to the West Coast, but they're looking to sell for $9.3 billion.
