Okotoks grocery stores are hoping to stock shelves at the Okotoks Food Bank.

'Feeding the Foothills' takes place every Thursday at a different grocery store in Okotoks from 3:00- 6:00 p.m. where monetary and food donations are accepted for the food bank.

Sheila Hughes, executive director of the Okotoks Food Bank, says she's thrilled to see the event return after its success last year.

"We did a great job of getting extra food on our shelves and also getting lots of donations, we were able to provide more fresh food for the families so it was great and I'm really excited to be back at it again."

Items the food bank is currently low on are soup, canned vegetables and fruit, rice, toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, size 5 and 6 diapers, and baby wipes.

Hughes says the food bank has a strong relationship with the participating grocery stores.

"The staff are fantastic, they're always happy to help us and happy to see us there. The customers are fantastic, they always come in and it's nice to see they always have a smile on their face, they listen to what we have to say, they're happy to take our lists and go around and do a bit of extra shopping for us," she says. "Very good partnerships, every one of the grocery stores are fantastic."

The first Feeding the Foothills this week at Safeway brought in 220 lbs in food donations and $60 in cash donations.

Feeding the Foothills will take place at Save On this Thursday, then Sobeys on June 15, Save On again on June 22, Sobeys on June 29, and No Frills on July 6.
