High River's "Heaven Can Wait" animal shelter is a little over a month away from closing their doors.

Owner Kim Hessel says she's swimming in debt trying to keep the shelter up and running, but is falling behind and asking for help, but says she can't hang on forever.

"Not much longer the way things are right now and I need to honour our debts to the Veterinarians obviously. And I want to be able to keep going. We've had some good offers for help in terms of how to restructure us financially for down the road and we'll obviously take advantage of that. Our worry is immediate. I think the long term stuff we have good help on and we'll be able to figure that out. It's the immediate needs right now.

A long plea for help Wednesday night on Facebook has been noticed though, and the community is coming to her aid.

"I got a text this (Thursday, October 13) morning that we had a woman donate $3,000, no string attached. And the Vet Clinic phoned me late Wednesday saying another woman had come in and put $3,000 on our bill through her credit card. And didn't want to be named, just wanted it to go there, and again no questions asked, just take it and use it, however Kim needs it."

A "Go Fund Me" page has been set up, with almost $10,000 dollars raised in just the past 12 hours.
