A fire ban is now in effect for the M.D. of Foothills, M.D. of Willow Creek and the County of Vulcan.

The fire bans do not cover campgrounds in High River or Okotoks.

All open fires need to be extinguished and any open burn permits have been cancelled.

However you can continue to use any gas or charcoal bar-b-cue's.

The ban will remain in place until the area receives significant moisture, and approval is received for the ban to be lifted.

The Province has also restriced open fires on private land, in the backcountry and non-designated camp sites in the Calgary Forest Area.

That stretches south of Highway 32, and to the northern boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park.

Previously issued fire permits have been cancelled, and the province is not issuing any others.

Fines will be issued to anyone keeping a fire in the area.
