Fire has destroyed the Medicine Tree Manor Seniors Home Tuesday morning in High River.

The building which was under construction after being torn down following the 2013 flood, was fully engulfed in flames around 5 Tuesday morning.

Megan Heck lives just across the street from where the fire was throwing flames 50 feet into the air.

She says it looked like the Fire Department had a handle on the blaze, but it's since sparked up again.

"I walked around to the other side and I could only see flames the back of the building the Fire Department gearing up to go deal with it. But now the side that's facing my house is fully in flames again. It looked like it was out, but now there's roaring flames coming up from the windows and doors again. It's crazy!"

Jody Shields lives in the same building and says she saw trouble early this morning.

"Yeah, I got up at 5 and there was flames shooting out of the new three story constructed part. There were no fire trucks here at that time, but they were on their way. It burned for quite some time in that newly constructed three story part."

She says it then looked to head to the west side of the manor.

The High River Fire Department, along with Fire Fighters from Okotoks, Black Diamond and the M.D. of Foothills continue to battle the blaze.

There's no word on whether anyone's been hurt or what caused the fire.

The Town of High River also put out a release this morning addressing the fire and some of the issues surrounding it for residents:
