Nanton's Shawn Wiebe made it through another Firefighter Stair Climb Challenge over the weekend in Calgary.

Close to 500 firefighters strapped on the gear to take the 1,204 steps to the top of the Bow Building, to raise money for Wellspring Calgary.

Wiebe says there's always optimism at the start.

"The first little bit it's nice and quick and going, and then all of a sudden the knees start to burn and then you slow down, and start sweating with all that gear on. It's an awesome weight loss program."

Wiebe finished in around 38 minutes.

The top time went to Calgary Firefighter Geoff Pyke with a time of 11:03.

Jay Froc from the M.D. of Foothills Fire Department was the top local finisher with a time of 15:13, good for 63rd spot.

Nanton's Jamie Vang finished 83rd with a time of 15:50.

You can check out the complete list of finishers at the Stair Climb Challenge website.
